![]() I would introduce him to the basics through ideally D3, but T元 can do, to let them freely experiment and learn, and then after they develop their favourite playstyle and understand the basics, I would get them to try the legend - D2R. It's also pretty great, I think one and two definitely surpass it though, especially if you're getting both of them. TL DR - I think D2R is a better game, but if I had a friend who's completely new to the genre, like a clueless baby, I wouldn't throw him into D2R immediately. Additionally, Torchlight 3 is still in Early Access, meaning it's very much in development and not the finished and polished product you would expect if you were to say, buy it off of a store shelf. From what Ive played, Diablo 3 is a much slicker, more linear and streamlined take on the genre that its predecessors made famous, while Torchlight 2 takes the idea and runs with it, throwing in new systems and ideas rather than taking out any that might weight it down. D3 and T元 both basically have free respec, which veterans might not like, but I think no one can deny free respec is useful for someone totally new, and it might help them test the fundamentals of the genre and develop their favourite playstyle. D2R also doesn't provide the same freedom of experimentation for someone completely new. The only long term progression T元 seems to have is the fort decoration system, which to be fair hooked me for a long time because I enjoy that type of stuff, I love to build/decorate super complex houses in any game that allows that, but I'm a rare exception here. D2R is literally the king of aRPGs, the legend that popularized the genre, and if you're both okay with "clunky" old gameplay, it will provide content for much more than 2 weeks, especially considering some rare drops that T元 just lacks. T元 is just casual fun coop for probably about 2 weeks, depending on how much fun your friendship by itself introduces to the experience. I think D2R is overall a better game but I played aRPGs for so many years I have no idea what someone completely new would prefer. I would normally recommend your friend to play D3 because even hardcore PoE players seem to agree D3 is the best introductory aRPG, but you've already played it so. x86-compatible 1.4GHz or faster, 1 GB RAM, DirectX compatible 3. ![]() Torchlight 3, as simple and small as it is, might be a better, casual, introductory experience. Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters. Because D2R looks great, but it's literally the same game, the new graphics are just rendered on top of the old original game. Bring your friends along for the journey with online and LAN multiplayer. It depends if your friend can deal with very archaic gameplay, and some old tedious (by today's standards) mechanics. Torchlight II Developer Runic Games Publisher Runic Games Released The adventure continues in Torchlight II An Action RPG filled with epic battles, bountiful treasure, and a fully randomized world. There are a few cutscenes and audio recordings. But for someone new I honestly have no idea. Torchlight 3 takes place a century after the events of Torchlight 2, but the narrative is almost entirely ancillary to the core gameplay experience.
